TL;DR What do you think of the idea of a decentralized job (DeJo)? If this already exists somewhere, I’d love to hear about it in the comments.
I’ve been frustrated with the job market lately. I’m highly qualified for my field, but I’ve recently moved to a new city and have very few contacts, and I’m slightly socially awkward. I’ve applied to tons of jobs and rarely get interviews (due to lack of networking) and if I do get an interview I’m not selected for the job (because of social awkwardness). I love crypto and everything it might promise for the future, and thought how could crypto improve the job market?
I’m thinking it could work a bit like the gig economy, mixed with crypto mining, mixed with FOSS governance structure. You can find a project you’re interested in, jump in and do some work, get paid in crypto (whole new meaning for ‘Proof of ‘Work’ lol), leave when you want. When work is needed in a particular sector, the value of the crypto paid out could increase so you’d get a fluid workforce that can quickly react to a changing economy.
I don’t know, just some ideas. What do you think?
Isn’t a decentralised job just the same thing as remote work?
It could be remote. But I was thinking it would be different from a regular job as in anyone is free to contribute to the project. You’re paid crypto for whatever contribution you choose to make.
If I had a business I’d perfer to hire permanent staff instead of having random people getting paid to do random amounts of work. What if the quality was poor etc
For sure, there would have to be some way to ensure quality work. I’m thinking like FOSS projects or even like Wikipedia editing. Crappy work doesn’t get approved so doesn’t get paid?

Thanks, that’s awesome. I’ll check it out.
You’re still working for a large corporation here though. I’m thinking the entire company/project is decentralized. But yeah, something like this.
Its called freelancing

Yeah, i’m thinking it’s really similar to that, but you don’t really need to market yourself or get clients. You would join an existing decentralized project/company and contribute work and get paid in crypto if the work is beneficial.
No idea… but good luck out there dude!
Thanks man!
Need this for nurses.
You should look into DAOs (Decentralized Autonomous Organizations). I’m not sure that there are very many employment opportunities in the DAO space, but it’s mainly just an interesting thing to look into and think about for the future. When a DAO needs certain work done, they will have to hire someone, and (in an ideal operation) the community will have to approve/select whoever they want to fill the job. For example, you might be a marketing director for a DAO, and then your ‘boss’ would be the thousands of token holders that are participating in the DAO.
Also of course there are plenty of opportunities in defi. I believe you can be a ‘liquidator’ on sites like anchor protocol, but I’m not quite sure what it entails and how worthwhile it is.
Totally agree, DAOs are an awesome start to this idea. Like, maybe the DAO is the company/project, and they offer up some tasks that anyone can do in exchange for some crypto.
What you’re describing does not yet exist (to my knowledge).
However, I think that what you’re describing is actually the future of work in general. Crypto has shown us 2 things:
It’s possible to stream payment to someone (i.e., payment doesn’t have to be in discreet chunks; it can be a persistent flow)
Value is value is value. (Once digitized, it’s possible trade in and out seamlessly from gaming assets to carbon offset assets to money for tipping to digital art.)
Putting these two things together (plus a bit of AI and perhaps set it all in the Metaverse) and it becomes possible to see how people can just go around providing value wherever they go and in whatever ways someone else might find valuable at the time. And payment of course would be instantly settled and streamed to you while you’re providing that value. Think of it like a video game where you go around completing quests and every time you do something your score ticks up. And every time you ‘buy’ something, your score ticks down.
Couldn’t say it better myself. The idea of ‘value’ is exactly what I’m thinking. People have value that is underused, we just need a better more efficient way of unlocking that value.
There isn’t any project fully launched that takes advantage of the Blockchain in the jobs industry.
There are some in pre-release but I think the most benefits could be gained by the freelancing websites if they somehow incorporate the Blockchain.
This concept already exists its called an independent contractor.
I mean maybe you can use blockchain to execute and store smart contracts but apart from that I don’t see your idea of a job being ‘decentralised’.
There will always be an employer/contractor and an employee/contractor relationship for employment purposes.
I guess the idea would be to try and get the best of both worlds. The freedom of an independent contractor, without the stress of the business/accounting/marketing side of the job.
